Anchorage resident Jerry Henry “Trey” Burkhart, 19, died Sept. 15, 2008, at Alaska Regional Hospital after complications related to a traumatic brain injury. His death occurred after a brief residency at Providence Extended Care Center.
A memorial service will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E St. Jerry’s friends are encouraged to join his family in a celebration of his life.
Jerry was born Jerry Henry Stout on Sept. 30, 1988, at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., and moved to Anchorage in 1989. He attended elementary, middle school and high school in Anchorage and graduated from the Alaska Military Youth Academy in 2005.
At the time of his death, he worked as a sales associate for Kirby Sales and Services of Alaska and was exploring plans to continue his education.
Growing up in Anchorage, Jerry enjoyed hockey, skateboarding, hunting and reading. As a young adult, he was interested in cars, computers and music. He possessed a quick wit and distinctive sense of humor, and was loved by a wide range of friends he enjoyed spending time with.
Jerry is survived by his parents, Brenda and Blase Burkhart; sister, Jennifer Burkhart and her partner O.T. Rodriguez; biological father, Jay Stout; grandparents, Eleanora Hipsak and June and Roy Burkhart; uncle, Curtis Hipsak; aunt and uncle, Sherri and Charles Reddick; cousin, Mariah Reddick; extended family members, Eunice McKinney and Cody and Jasmine McKinney; and numerous extended members of the Hipsak family.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Nick Hipsak.
